It's hard to believe, but a week from Tuesday I will head back to the Dominican Republic. So much time and effort has been put into it over the past 9 months that make it unreal for it to be coming up so quickly!
From the looks/sounds of it so far, our trip may be significantly different than last years without even considering the actual work we'll be doing. First, it's been raining a lot down there - some flooding even. Last year, it rained only the first night we were there. Of course, that could happen again. Only time will tell.
Secondly, they've been having several earthquakes there in the past few days. This isn't something I necessarily am looking forward to!
Please pray for our team. Here are some of our prayer requests:
1. Pray that our final preparations and arrangements fall into place.
2. Pray for smooth and safe travel. We are caravan-ing to Chicago and have to haul all our luggage (75+pieces for 25 of us) from the parking lots to the terminal since we can't take the trailer near the terminal.... We fly Chicago to Miami and then into Santiago.
3. Pray that our experience with customs in the D.R. goes smoothly. Taking the medications and audiology equipment could be a concern. Last year, we were waived right through. We're hoping for the same this year.
4. Pray that our team would be unified, supportive, and encouraging to one another. (not that we expect any different).
5. Pray for those we work with and those we work for. Pray that the love of Jesus shines through us.
6. Pray for the health of the team and our families back home. Last year, one of the girls who went and her husband had to leave the second day we were there due to the death of her father back home. They are returning with their daughter this year, and it is going to be hard. I know she would covet your prayers for strength to make it through the week.
Thanks so much for all your love and support. Take care of my kiddos back home for me!
