Yes, we did return from Cincinnati. I just kept forgetting to get out here and post! Sorry about that...
Overall it was a good trip. We did receive confirmation that Jacob gets car sick - not something I was overly prepared for. We also found out from a call to our pediatrician's office that there's not really anything we can give him for it. Their only suggestion was if we felt desperate enough, we could give him a teaspoon of Benadryl to knock him out for the trip.
Monday, we took the opportunity to stop by the IKEA store before heading to our hotel. Oh my! What a store it was! It's absolutely huge, and they have almost everything you need for a house. We bought just a couple things and headed on down to our hotel.
After a quick trip to Target for swimming stuff, Jacob and Daddy had a good time in the hotel swimming pool. We were surprised how much Jacob liked it. This past summer he didn't want anything to do with getting in the pool. Apparently, a lot has changed in 6 months!
Tuesday morning we got up early and headed to the hospital. We arrived early, but they took us back and started getting the information. After meeting with the nurse, the fellow (some level of doctor, but I'm not sure what) came in and spoke with us. He spent a good amount of time getting details from me while Daddy tried to keep Jacob from getting into everything. Dr. Amin came in after a little while and spoke with us some more.
The game plan we've devised is to have another sleep study done with a full EEG. We want to rule out any seizure-type problem and confirm that it is obstructive sleep apnea. This combined test will take place at Cincinnati Children's Hospital (scheduled for 4/16). We will then go back in May for the results.
If it is obstructive sleep apnea, then we'll have to figure out what to do next. They're willing to do a Cine MRI but the test is primarily used to determine what type of surgery is needed and it's assumed that you'll go through with the appropriate surgery. The bad thing is that most all the surgeries are pretty nasty and invasive. We hope we don't have to go this route.
One of the best things that came out of the appointment was that we don't have to use the CPAP for now. He's not tolerating it well enough to get any benefit from it, and it's making us all suffer.
After the appointment, we headed to the Newport Aquarium. Jacob pretty much ran through the whole thing. We enjoyed it, but we were all very tired for the drive home.
Hmm..Tired seems to be a theme running in my life. I'm tired now, so I'm heading off to sleep. Take care!
